EARLY DAVENPORT CHINOISERIE RUINS PATTERN BLUE AND WHITE PEARLWARE PLATE C.1800
Early Davenport Chinoiserie Ruins pattern blue and white pearlware plate c.1800
"A beautiful early Chinoiserie blue and white design on an English pearlware indented plate made by Davenport. It dates from c.1800, is known as the Chinoiserie Ruins pattern and has the earliest Davenport mark a small anchor. This early marked piece lends weight to the argument that Davenport may have been the first makers of the Chinoiserie Ruins pattern which was later copied by others. A super reference and display piece for the discerning Staffordshire Blue and antique pottery collector." Antiques Expert Hamilton Bear.

References: This item is illustrated in Staffordshire Blue, W.L. Little plate 22 and Blue and White Transfer Ware 1780-1840, A.W. Coysh plate 26 page 27.
Dimensions: width 203 mm max. approximately 7.9 inches.
Marks: As illustrated impressed small anchor to base.
Condition: A good early example. There is some light browning age-staining to the reverse of the plate with several spots to the front which do not spoil the front display view. One small flat rim chip at 8.00 o'clock has been filled and painted to a good standard and is difficult to spot and easily missed. The quality of this piece for decorative display can still be appreciated and enjoyed.
