VERY RARE NOTCHED RIMS WORCESTER PORCELAIN BLUE AND WHITE TEABOWL & SAUCER, THE PLANTATION PATTERN, BFS II.B.5 C.1757-60
"A very special and attractive Dr. Wall period Worcester porcelain teabowl and saucer, finely transfer printed in the Plantation pattern. The Plantation pattern print is one of the earliest First Period Worcester underglaze blue and white patterns and first dates from circa 1757-60. Teabowl and saucer sets seem almost impossible to find in this pattern. This particular teabowl and saucer shape is itself a real rarity. The delightful, finely potted, scalloped edged or notched rims are only very rarely found on early Worcester teawares and date circa 1756-58. Both porcelain shape and the quality of the printing indicates that this wonderful set is one of the few earliest surviving examples. The best of antique English porcelain in blue and white." Dimensions: width saucer 117 mm max. height teabowl 43 mm max.
Marks: none.
Condition: Both pieces are excellent with no restoration. Condition report: Just one old small flat rim chip to one side of the teabowl (illustrated). There are a number of typical minor firing, manufacturing, imperfections to this early piece as follows: To the teabowl inside, a patch of peppering impurities to the base glaze from firing. To the saucer front a piece of raised kiln debris/clay impurity present, glazed over white, below 11 o'clock. Viewed with magnifier - minute regular indentation/chips to flat footrim of teabowl caused by removal of kiln furniture. Two also present to saucer footrim.
